My Google lense thinks it’s some sort of carpenter bee dut I’m not sure how accurate that is

Probably a flying one.

My bet is some type of hoverfly. The eyes look extremely fly like, but the body appears to mimic a bee of some kind.

I’m no bee expert but I’d be fairly certain that’s not a bee... I don’t know of any bees with those long and skinny legs. Without bothering to look up for any proof, I’d guess a horsefly or something like that...

I was going to guess horse fly or the lethal flesh eating Cambodian fly.

It’s been a long time since I had entomology, but I think you’re looking at a golden-backed snipe fly.
The real mystery here is what is a “clerance hole”?

Part of the family that will crawl in your ear and control your brain.

I’ve heard of clearance holes, but I’ve never heard of a clerance hole....

I’m no biologist but that sure looks like a deer fly. Boy oh boy do I hate those things. I once had to traverse down a railroad track through the marshes along the Anclote River, and those bastards were so thick I had to wear a beekeeper’s hat-and-veil, long sleeves and gloves, in the middle of summer in Florida, and every time I’d lift the veil up to look through the transit they’d dart in and sting me on my face.
